ALIENWARE OS FROM HDD TO SSD WINDOWS
I feel like this confirms the theory that somehow it was using the Boot Manager on the HDD to run Windows on the SSD. From here, there are options to enter recovery environment, go to startup settings, or go to the BIOS menu. Sure enough, the computer now refuses to even send us into Windows Automatic Recovery, it simply says "Recovery. However, after trying several other things, we were at a loss. We do have a backup of everything, but obviously we were a bit hesitant to do this. Someone with a very similar issue said they eventually solved it by deleting the protected partition on the HDD using DISKPART's clean tool, and it then recognized the SSD. There were some recommendations online from those with similar issues to try in BIOS turning it from UEFI to Legacy, but that was greyed out and unchangeable. The HDD had been formatted, so it shouldn't have had anything on it period. It almost seemed like it was using the Windows Boot Manager from the old HDD, to then load Windows from the SSD. However, this option seemed to include "HDD" in the name. However, the F12 boot menu did show something that would then boot Windows. None of the recovery options worked-no system restore point, no system image, and resetting Windows failed.įrom the F2 BiOS, the SSD just wouldn't show up. If we just loaded Windows as normal, it would send us to Windows Automatic Recovery.
(Earlier we also had issues with it seeing a USB as a boot option, back when we were trying another method.) It only showed "Windows Boot Manager" and the two NICs. At that point, we were able to run from the SSD, and everything seemed to be working, but the BIOS refused to see the SSD as a boot option. Tried several methods to move the data, eventually used EaseUS Todo Backup to clone the HDD onto the SSD. to Let me know if any other spec info would be useful. Essentially having issues with the BIOS seeing the SSD after moving Windows over.įirst of all, it's an Alienware Aurora R10 running Windows 10.
